About the selection
Memory is the precondition of narrative, and when it is disturbed or it is malfunctioning, narratological coherence and efficiency suffer as well. In fact, narration not only depends on memory. It is inherently constructed by it as well, as seen in the omnipresence of memory-based techniques like retroversion or flashback – in any narrative.
By recalling or recognizing previous experiences, “Transiting Memories” is trying to deliberate the relation between time and space, reality and fiction from different perspectives – increasing the imaginary with sarcasm and absurdity.
These works are compiling personal and collective histories, returning time and time again to memories of the past, that establish in addition a highly personalized image repertory of our time.

About the festival
SIMULTAN FESTIVAL
for electronic arts and music
Timisoara, Romania
Initiated by a group of artists (Huba Antal, Levente Kozma, Alin Rotariu, Szilard Szoke, Sorin Vreme), the SIMULTAN Festival was born with the aim of creating a platform for contemporary cultural projects which use technology as artistic mean of expression.
In 2005 took place the first edition of Simultan, having the sub-title “video-sound experiment”, event which intended to investigate the audio-visual stage and to what extent such a project could be a challenge, both to the artist and to the public.
Simultan is a festival dedicated to video and media art, which offers annually 3 days of events located in different spaces in Timisoara – video art screenings, audio-visual live performances, experimental electronic music concerts, installations, lectures.
Starting with the third edition, Simultan proposes a new theme every year. Thus, SIMULTAN 2007 explores the idea of “Interference”, on audio-visual and socio-cultural level, the way in which technology and society induce and generate new forms of artistic expression, through the new media.
Through the theme “Temporary Tactics”, SIMULTAN 2008 aimed to highlight time and space connected “speculative” situations.
The 4th edition took place under the title “Transposition” and was hosted by different spaces in Timisoara, like Sinagoga din Cetate, the Art and Design Faculty, the Hungarian Theatre.
The 2010 edition was organized between 30 September – 2 October, under the title “Past Continuous. Future Perfect.”
Besides the video screenings, the live performance projects and experimental music, the festival featured contemporary dance performative shows.
The event wishes to maintain and to stimulate the creative ways of the most modern visions of perceiving and recording the cultural realities in contemporary art. It aims to promote the activity of young artists and of those who belong to the contemporary movement, through introducing and presenting the current processes and the most innovating and revolutionary tendencies.

O izboru
Izbor del temelji na spominu kot predpogoju za pripoved. Avtor izbora, Levente Kozma, izhaja iz predpostavke, da če je spomin moten, oziroma če ne deluje “pravilno”, potem posledično trpi tudi zgodba, njena skladnost in učinkovitost. Narava pripovedi je sestavljena iz retrovizije – flashbacka, vendar pa le-ta ni zgolj odvisna od spomina.
Na osnovi preteklih izkušenj poskuša izbor “Prehodni spomini” s poudarjenim absurdom in sarkazmom raziskovati razmerja med časom in prostorom ter resničnostjo in fikcijo iz različnih perspektiv. Izbor del je sestavljen iz osebnih in kolektivnih zgodovin, ki se vedno znova vračajo. Spomini iz preteklosti težijo k temu, da poleg osebnih zgodb kažejo predvsem podobo današnjega časa.

SIMULTAN FESTIVAL
Festival elektronske umetnosti in glasbe
Temišvar, Romunija
Festival je ustanovila skupina romunskih umetnikov (Huba Antal, Levente Kozma, Alin Rotariu, Szilard Szoke, Sorin Vreme) z namenom ustvariti platformo za sodobno umetniško produkcijo, ki za osnovo svojega umetniškega izražanja uporabljala tehnologijo.
Prva edicija festivala je bila leta 2005, s podnaslovom “Video-zvočni eksperiment”. Takrat se je v treh dneh na različnih lokacijah Temišvara zvrstilo več zvočnih in video dogodkov v obliki projekcij, performansov, koncertov eksperimentalne elektronske glasbe, instalacij in predavanj.
Značilnost festivala je, da njegovi organizatorji vsako leto v ospredje postavijo novo temo. Leta 2007 so raziskovali »Interference« avdio-vizualnih in socialno-kulturnih nivojev, ukvarjali so se z vprašanji, kako se tehnologija in družba lahko dopolnjujeta in generirata nove oblike v okviru umetnosti. Leta 2008 je bil naslov festivala “Začasne taktike”. Predstavili so dela, ki se ukvarjajo s teoretičnimi situacijami, ki so povezane s časom in prostorom. Četrta edicija z naslovom “Transposition” se je leta 2009 ukvarjala s fenomenom premeščanja. Lanskoletni festival pa je potekal pod naslovom “Past Continuous. Future Perfect”.
Festival je v nekaj letih postal prepoznaven v domačem in mednarodnem okolju. Usmerjen je k predstavljanju in spodbujanju mladih umetnikov in različnih sodobnih kreativnih praks.
